AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE DISTRICT. Please click HERE for the official letter or see below.

April 14, 2019

Dear Stewart Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to inform you of some important information that will have a big impact on your school community for the remainder of this year and into next year.

First, Dr. Aloo will be on Administrative Leave for the remainder of the school year. In his absence, we are working to secure an experienced administrator to serve as Principal until the end of the year. Currently, we have Ms. Teresa Barrera serving as the Substitute Principal. You will also see Central Office administrators at your school serving to support the students, staff and families. Work will be done with students regarding conflict resolution and empathy among classmates especially in the 6th through 8th grades.

Second, roughly a month ago, Dr. Aloo resigned from his position as Principal of your school, starting in June 2019. It is unfortunate he did not make the announcement himself. To pick a new leader, the District will implement a process where staff and parents participate in the first round of interviews for the new Principal. To this end “listening sessions” will be conducted separately for parent/community members and staff. Those sessions have been scheduled for Tuesday, April 23rd. The staff “listening session” will be at 3:00 to 4:00, followed by the parent session at 6:00 to 7:00. The purpose of the sessions is for staff and parents to identify the professional qualities needed from the next Principal of your school and to identify interview panel members.

Finally, the K-8 model at Stewart School will change for the 2019-2020 school year. These changes will have the greatest impact at the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. I am sorry these pending changes have not been fully shared with you. The changes are part of the move to implement common practices and staffing at all of the K-8 schools in our District. Details of the new schedule and teaching model will be shared within the next week to ten days.

I realize this is a lot to digest and am available to answer questions and concerns. I can be reached at mgonzales@wccusd.net and at (510) 231-1140. Thank you for your support and patience during this transitional time.

Sincerely,

Marco Gonzales

Executive Director, Elementary Education

LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD

The Stewart PTA’s FATE committee (Family and Teacher Engagement) is excited to launch an initiative to get feedback from parents about your experiences at Stewart. We want your voices to be heard! Tell us what you think is working or what could use some help or support. Our goal is to build up our community in positive ways and parents play a key role in accomplishing that. Let's get engaged! Let's make Stewart the best school it can be! Ways to contribute:

- Write an email to fate@stewartpta.com about an experience you would like to share. We will be collecting email communications and present a summary to Dr. Aloo each month.

- Drop an anonymous note in the new Suggestion Box located in the office. Suggestion Box communications will go directly to Dr. Aloo as he will have the only key.

- The FATE committee meets on the first Friday of each month from 6:30pm – 7:30pm in the Library. Please mark your calendars and join the conversation
